1969 Camp Sagamore

JACKSON'S JALOPIES

It is 1969 and we have finished 9th grade! We are all about 14 years old.
Our camp group was named after our Camp Counselor, Donna Jackson. (see her picture below sitting on the bed, the look on her face is What have I gotten myself into?).
Top picture in the CUTE HOT PINK sweatshirts are Jpen, & not sure - is it Cathy or Debbie, then there is Jkle's cousin Sherry, I think.
Sittin' on top of the bed is Dcog and Dkee, looks like they are playing poker! nah!
Remember NO MIXED SWIMMING with the BOYS, the girl's swimming pool was where we went every afternoon.

Fixing our hair and makeup ....
Sleeping Beauties!!!
Dcog! What are you doing in so many pictures???????????

HEY - I don't remember if we did a skit, if you have memory of it- please click on comment at the bottom of the page and tell me.

I do remember Mrs. Jackson was very nice, and shortly after camp was over we learned she had been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). Wonder where she is today?

Wow....a triple bonus! Halloween, camp and choir tour all in one weekend. Yes, that is my cousin, Sherrie, from Missour. She is in two of the pictures above! In fact, I gave her this blog link and she made a comment on an earlier camp blog. Like us, she has many fond memories from the years she attended with us. I remember Mrs. Jackson. Hasn't she passed away? I hope I am wrong but something tells me that she did. Such a neat lady. Skni, I don't remember a skit that year, either. Why did we like to swim in that nasty pool? Smelled like rotten eggs because of the sulphur water. I remember they used to put hot ice in the drinking fountains next to the tabernacle which took some of the sulphur smell away. What great memories. I never experienced camp once all the renovations took place: air condidtioned cabins, etc. Do churches still have camp at Latham Springs today? Any other comments out there???? love, jkle

Skni, My apologies, I thought I had posted comments to your blog. I love it, you are doing an amazing job and I look forward to your weekly updates...maybe my technology is not working from my end.

I my memory serves...and it often does not, I think our skit our first year at camp was
each of us held a poster spelling out..."NO SKIT".

Thanks for all your hardwork, your talents, and time. Love, Bbow

That's not fair! I don't remember anyone taking my picture while I was sleeping--and with curlers in my hair at that. That was a fun time for me. I will never forget all of you and the fun camp was.

Who is the girl in the very top picture with JPen above?? She appears in several shots and while I remember her face, I can't recall her name. I recall her being very quiet. At first, I thought Angela Filewood (?)....but I don't think that's right. For some reason I think here father was in some sort of church work and they were in FW for only a short amount of time. Someone help me out!!! love, jkle P. S. Sherri, glad to see you have fond memories of the camps you attended. You deserve to have a picture posted with curlers in your hair, too!!!!!

YES, it IS PATTY GUFFEY!!

The prize goes to Jhar! Thanks - now, what is she doing today?

I saw Patty Guffey about 7-8 years ago with her family and I was so excited to see them because I lost contact with her after she got married. She had been living in Sulphur Springs at that time. She had NO IDEA who I was - and really didn't remember much about SHBC except for Jerry Combs (who she liked) and Darryl Reeves (who lied her). Jhar

Patty Guffy is also the one fixing Bbow's hair. She and I became pretty good friends. Imagine her not remembering all this!
The skit for the "Jackson's Jalopies" year was "See Mother Run." It was a funny article in Reader's Digest that we acted out while someone (Donna Jackson?) read the article out loud. I remember because I was "Mother" (a very appropriate role - turns out!) I, too, am loving the blog and will try to make more time to check out the newest posts. jpen

OK, Ms. Blogger....you are shirking your blogging duties!!! I have come to look forward to them on a weekly basis! I know it's the holidays and you have been very busy welcoming Mr. Tommy into the world, so I will cut you some slack!!!! Just didn't want you to think we don't miss them. Hey, have we decided where and when on the 29th? Merry Christmas everyone! Love, jkle
